  • That’s All – Genesis

Sometimes I come across some lyrics that just sum things up.

    I could leave but I won’t go
Though my heart might tell me so
I can’t feel a thing from my head down to my toes
So why does it always seem to be
Me looking at you, you looking at me
    S’always the same, it’s just a shame, that’s all

    Truth is I love you
    More than I wanted to
There’s no point in trying to pretend
    There’s been no-one who
Makes me feel like you do
Say we’ll be together til the end

“That’s All” dwells in the can’t live with you, can’t live without you relationship limbo that many other songs have inhabited.

But why does it always seem to be / Me lookin’ at you, you lookin’ at me, the narrator complains, evoking how they are unable to communicate their way through their conflicts. Indeed, the lack of a middle ground seems to be dooming their chances: Taking it all instead of taking one bite. Still, in the bridge, he admits that his feelings for her are too strong to simply write off this affair: Truth is I love you / More than I wanted to do.

  • I Wish I Was A Disco Boy

Living In a Haze – Milky Chance on YouTube

I hear this song on the radio, and the chorus hits me. I wish I was a a disco boy (disco boy). I wish I was a guy that went to clubs, had fun, and partied. I think the song is just referring to heterosexual behavior, going to the clubs; but since I’m who I am, I think it’s the “boi” term. I’m happy with who I am; this just makes me pine for my 20s again and having taken more advantage of the time I had.

So if you are in your 20s, take advantage of the time you have being in the prime years of your life. I know, like you need a dad telling you what to do or giving you more advice.

I read an article recently that basically says whatever decade of life you’re in, 25% think that’s the best. And it’s generally split among the other decades. Until you’re in your 50s. It’s all behind you then. I’ve got a few years left then.
